One of the most iconic symbols is the Greek Owl of Athens with Athena, goddess of Wisdom on the reverse. Notice the crescent moon on the left, signifies the Battle of Marathon in 490 B.C.E. when the Athenians defeated the Persians. The Greeks considered owls significant, wise and important birds. The pendant is about the size of a half dollar.
